Academic Calendar Definitions and Policy
Academic Policy: 15-Week Course vs. 8-Week Course Enrollment
Students enrolling at the University have the option to pursue their coursework through either a 15-week course or an accelerated 8-week course, with each offering unique benefits and enrollment requirements.
15-Week Courses
In the 15-week course, students enroll in two or more courses simultaneously over a 15-week semester. This schedule allows for a steady pace, giving students the time to fully engage with multiple subjects concurrently. Fifteen-week courses are ideal for students who prefer a balanced approach to managing several courses at once. Currently, the University of Arts and Design offers 4 semesters:
Spring I – First day begins in January
Spring II – First day begins in March
Summer – First day begins in May
Fall – First day begins in September
Accelerated 8-Week Courses
Students can choose to take accelerated 8-week intensive courses. Due to their rigorous, condensed format, students may only enroll in one accelerated course at a time. Completing an accelerated course requires a focused commitment, and students may finish in as little as 4 weeks. Upon completion, students can enroll in another course—either in a 15-week format or another accelerated 8-week course—but cannot be enrolled in both a 15-week and an accelerated 8-week course, nor two accelerated courses, simultaneously.
Accelerated 8-week courses generally start on the first Monday of each month, contingent upon course availability and holiday schedules. In cases where a holiday falls on the scheduled start date, courses will instead commence on Tuesday.
Enrollment Options
Students can choose the course format that best aligns with their preferred pace and learning style while ensuring the quality and depth of their educational experience.
Students may take both the 15-week and accelerated 8-week course to fulfill their program requirements, although these two course formats can be taken simultaneously. For example, a student may enroll in three 15-week courses during the Spring I semester and enroll in one accelerated 8-week course in May, and then take three 15-week courses in the Fall. This approach allows students to choose enrollment options to best meet their individual scheduling needs while supporting their academic progress and successful course completion.
